Career Story

I was hired at Apex in 2003 as a component designer, with a 2-year Drafting and Design degree from ITT-Technical Institute. When I graduated from Nease High School in 1997, I had hopes of becoming an architect, but I soon found that technical drafting was a better fit for me.

As I began my component design career at Apex, I found that I was being challenged to improve in other areas, more than just the day-to-day tasks it took to perform my primary job. I was given a plethora of material and encouraged to improve in technical understanding, communication, work efficiency, personal efficiency, and personal success.

I had never been in a workplace that made professional and personal growth such an important part of their company culture. In this type of environment, I enjoyed strong success, including excelling professionally in component design.

After a few years at Apex, I was provided an opportunity to pursue a Civil Engineering degree through Apex’s tuition reimbursement program. Once again, I found another opportunity to improve personally and professionally at Apex.

Over the next six years of life, work and school, I finished my Civil Engineering degree, earned an E.I. status and will now pursue my P.E. license. Apex has been a fantastic work environment that has challenged me to reach new heights that I never imagined I might achieve. I have found that overcoming some challenges can at times be difficult and uncomfortable, but that they are an essential ingredient to positive long-term growth.
